N.Z. SKIERS IN AUSTRALIA
TEAMS SPEND DAY IN PRACTISING
ONLY ONE STATE ENTERS IN JUMP
(Reecived September 9, 12.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 8. The representative of the Australian Press Association at Mount Kosciusko t reports that the New Zealand ski team spent to-day in practising. Several of the party are still feeling the effects of the rough Tasman trip. Ferrier, H. Wigley, and Mrs Edwardes have been elected to the race committee. Most gathered to watch the interstate jump this morning. Only the New South Wales team entered, but Whittaker (Victoria) entered as a non-competitive. The weather was fine and sunny, with a troublesome gusty wind, and the snow was soft on alighting. The big hill was used, but the in-run was so limited that the longest jump was only 28 metres, executed by S. A. Kaston, who, however, fell in two attempts. The winner was G. Day (New South Wales), who jumped in three attempts, 24, 24. and 25£ metres. The runner-up was J. Pattinson (New South Wales) 19£, 24, and 24* metres. The langlauf competition was abandoned because of the unfavourable weather.
