ELEPHANT RUNS AMUCK
KEEPER DIES AFTER MUTINY
CIRCUS ANIMAL ESCAPES IN N.S.W. TOWN
SYDNEY, September 8. After fatally mauling its keeper, Jack Drummett, at Parkes, an elephant belonging to Perry Bros.' circus, ran amuck about the streets of the town, causing the terrified residents to take refuge behind closed doors. Two policemen attempted to herd the animal into a yard, but it charged them, and they took shelter in a motor-truck, which the elephant attacked and damaged. Eventually the elephant was yarded by police and circus attendants. It will be shot to-day. Drummett was shockingly injured, having been gored by the huge tusks and hammered with the animal's trunk. ]
