WEDNESDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) REMANDED Arthur Gladstone Polkinghorne, a salesman, aged 47, was charged with committing indecent assault on a male on September 7. Accused was remanded till September 16.' TREATMENT OF HORSE William Hepburn, of New Brighton, pleaded guilty to a charge of permitting an aged and emaciated bay mare to be worked in harness while it was suffering from a raw sore on thte top of its neck. The prosecution was conducted by Mr D. J. White, inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who said that the mare was seen standing in Dundas street, with a sore two and a half inches long and one and a half inches wide, on its neck. TT epburn was convicted and ordered tc :ome up for sentence if called on within 12 months, and ordered to pay ' UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY For defaulting in payment of the unemployment levy, Anthony John Corrigan was convicted and fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. HALF-HOLIDAY NOT OBSERVED J. H. Templeton, grocer, of Colombo street, was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs for employing a worker after noon on the statutory half-holiday. The employee was the defendant's son. UNLICENSED RADIO Operators of unlicensed radio sets were fined as follows (and ordered to pay costs unless otherwise stated): —Herbert Martin Blazey, 15s; Alexander Francis Cotton, ss; John Donaldson, 12s 6d; Robert Geddis, 12s 6d; George Frederick Halliday, 15s; Lena Hill, 7s 6d; Colin Manson, ss; Norman Louis Pannell, ss; Leslie Peters, ss; Frank Renwick, costs only; Cyril Risworth, ss; James Henry Salt, 10s; Frank Cecil Smith, ss; Leslie George Smith, 10s; Claud Taylor, 10s; Leah Ward, costs only.

(Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) F. G. Kirkpatrick, a storekeeper, charged with working an employee after 12 noon on the statutory closing day. was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. J. Flutey, charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment, to be released on payment of arrears. He was also ordered to pay costs. Hori Turia for disobedience of a maintenance order was convicted and sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment, to be released on payment of arrears. He was ordered to pay costs. CIVIL CLAIM Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following case: S. R. Webber v. D. Wright, £l2 16s.
