ANNUAL MEETING AND SMOKE CONCERT
NEW BRIGHTON MUNICIPAL BAND
The annual meeting and smoke concert of the New Brighton Municipal Band was held in the band hall last evening. The Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith) presided. The secretary reported that the year ended with a credit balance of £l2 8s Bd. The band gave 47 performances in Brighton and one in the city. Thanks were due to Bandsmen Russell, H. Barsby, Mr A. Partridge, and Mr J. Adnams for giving medals for competitions. The toast-list was as follows:—"The Patron," proposed by Mr J. Clarke, and responded to by Mr A. W. Owles; "New Brighton Band," proposed by the Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith), and responded to by Bandmaster J. A. Nuttall; "President and the Mayor of New Brighton," proposed by Captain A. P. Hopkins, and responded to by the Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith); "Council and Outside Staff," proposed by Mr J. A. Nuttall, and responded to by Cr. W. T. Glasgow; "Life Members," proposed by Mr S. Dwight; "Vice-presidents," proposed by Mr Hull, and responded to by Mr S. Grammer; "Visiting Bandsmen," proposed by Mr J. A. Nuttall, and responded to by Mr Turner. Medals were presented by the Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith) as follows:—Medal and gold bar, more than seven years' service: Conductor J. A- Nuttall, Sergeant C Cross, Corporal G. Pepper, Bandsmen C. Maxted and L. Briggen. Five years' attendance (gold medal): Lance-Corporal J. Harper, Bandsman R, Clarke. Silver medal: Bandmaster H. Barsby, Bandsmen K Richards. J. Roud, L. Croft, R. McVicker, L. Marshall, R. Russell, J. Wear, and R. Howell Items were given by Messrs K. Brundill (saxophone), Les. Croft (songs), and L. Stewart. Competitions were won by Miss B. Wilson, Mr I. Allan, and Mr J. Jennett. !
