GOLFER CHARGED WITH ROBBERY

BAIL GRANTED IN 25,000 DOLLARS (Received August 27, 8.5 p.m.) ELIZABETH TOWN (New York), August 26. • Four hi .dred spectators, including the film actor, Otto Kruger, packed a tiny court-room and heard the Judge grant bail in 25,000 dollars to John Montague, the golfer, in spite of the District Attorney's vigorous opposition. The Judge said that Montague, who is charged with robbery, resembled Jean Valjean. He appeared to have worked out a complete reformation and to have become a useful, respected, and distinguished citizen. [On August 6 it was ruled that the Governor of Essex County, New York, must, under the law, extradite John Montague, the golfer, on a robbery charge. The police were alleged to have identified Montague's fingerprints with those of a man said to be named La Verne Moore, who was convicted at Syracuse for extortion in 1927. Montague was already awaiting extradition to Essex County to appear on a charge of the theft of 700 dollars in 1930.]
