Sometime after daylight COKman was sighted on the island and the "police at Tauranga were adviseo. f hey went to the island in the harbour launch Reo. Early in the morning Coleman twice attempted to swim from the island to the beach but was beaten back by the heavy swell. Those ashore improvised a big notice, "Help coming, which was easily seen by Coleman. He was brought off in a dinghy to the launch, where stimulants, food. and clothing were supplied by the police.
