YOUTH MAROONED ON ISLAND

TAURANGA, August ZXHenry Coleman, aged 18, a resident of Wellington, who is spending a holiday at Mount Maunganui, had a trying experience last night when he was marooned on Rabbit Island off Mount Maunganui. About 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon he swam across the passage of w yards from the beacK to the stoj The sea was choppy and he swallowed much water and reached the island exhausted. He rested awhile on the island clad only in a bathing suit He was very cold and sheltered in a small cave, but was forced out by the rising tide in the night. He ran MP and down the beach to keep warm. The failure of Coleman to retaf** caused alarm and residents Pa*""** 1 the beach with torches during the night. Sometime after daylight COKman was sighted on the island and the "police at Tauranga were adviseo. f hey went to the island in the harbour launch Reo. Early in the morning Coleman twice attempted to swim from the island to the beach but was beaten back by the heavy swell. Those ashore improvised a big notice, "Help coming, which was easily seen by Coleman. He was brought off in a dinghy to the launch, where stimulants, food. and clothing were supplied by the police.
