SPRINGBOKS TO PLAY AT TIMARU GREASY GROUND LIKELY SOUTH CANTERBURY'S HEAVY FORWARDS (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) TIMARU, August 27. Showery weather greeted the Springboks on their arrival at Timaru to-dav. A big crowd assembled at the railway station to see the team. The players were informally greeted by Mr J. H. Harley, president of the South Canterbury Rugby Union, and the Mayor (Mr P. C. Vinnell). Half an inch of rain fell yesterday, and further showers to-day make it certain that the ground will be greasy if not soft. Keen interest is being taken in the game, and if the weather clears to-morrow, there should be a record crowd. The team chosen to represent South Africa contains nine who played in the first test, and in addition Harris, Brand, and Nel appear in the team. Indications are that the selection will be close to that of the visitors' team for the second test. The teams are— SOUTH AFRICA Full-back: G. H. Brand (12.0). Three-quarters: F. G. Turner (12.8), L. Babrow (11.5), G. P. Lochner (12.7), D. O. Williams (13.6). Stand-off half: T. A. Harris (11.8). Scrum-half: D. H. Craven (13.6). Forwards, back row: G. L. van Reenan (14.10). Middle row: L. C. SOUTHLAND GAME TODAY STRONG OPPOSITION FOR CANTERBURY HOME TEAM CHANGED Although seven members of the team which took the Ranfurly Shield from Otago are not available. Southland will field a strong team against Canterbury at Lancaster Park to-day. Southland has already won three matches in the South Island and, with an average weight of 13st 61b in the forwards, and list 51b in the backs, it should give a good account of itself to-day. Several changes have also had to be made to the Canterbury team. In the pack Williams and Coll will lock and IMilliken will take the place of Whillans on the side. The first five-eighths, Brooks, is indisposed, and will be replaced by R. Garrett. In the three-quarter line Chinnery will change to the right wing, Carmichael will be on the left, and Mortlock will play at centre. The teams are:— CANTERBURY Full-back: G. T. Nolan (Old Boys). Blackball, winner of the West Coast championship, will meet Sydenham this afternoon at Spreydon Domain, and to-morrow (Sunday) will play Hornby at Monica Park, when a fine exhibition is expected, as Hornby has lately been in its best form and Blackball comes with a reputation for hard and fast play. J. Dodds, well known in Christchurch, has had a lot to do with the club's success with his clever running.
