ISLAND TRIP

STAY OF TWO DAYS IN CrtRISTCttUKCtt

The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) will next week pay his first visit to the South Island since his return from the Imperial Conference. A stay of two days in Christchurch Will be fully occupied with a big list of public engagements. Leaving Wellington on Saturday night, Mr Savage will pass through Christchurch on Sunday on his way to Dunedin. He will return to Christchurch from Dunedin on Wednesday night and remain here until the , ( Friday night. The itinerary so far arranged for his trip is as follows: Saturday, August 28—Leave Wellington by the steamer express. -

Sunday, August 29—Leave Christchurch by the 11.22 p.m. train for Dunedin. Monday, Auf. -;st 30—Arrive Dunedin at 6.53 a.m. Civic reception in the Town Hall in the evening.

Tuesday, August 31—Opening of first houses built under the Dunedin City Council's housing plan in the afternoon, banquet in the evening to celebrate the opening of the H. E. Holland Memorial Hall. Wednesday, September I—Leave1 —Leave Dunedin by the first express and arrive in Christchurch at 5.10 p.m. Attend civic reception in the St. James' Theatre at 8 p.m. THe Mayor rMr J. W. Beanland) will preside at the reception and other speakers are to be selo 'ted.

Thursday, September 2—Receive in the afterridoh a deputation oh the tunnel road project, arranged by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. A dance organised by the Labour Representation Committee in the Caledonian Mall will be held in the evening; at which Mr will give an address.

Friday, September 3—Return north by the steamer express. . It is expected that further engagements will be added to these. It is understood that at the civic reception Mr Savage will dist ss the work of the Imperial Conference, and that His second public address, on the following night, will be devoted to an outline of the Government's policy, arid the work Of the coming session. Mr Savage will bo accompanied on the* tour by the Minister for Mines (the Hon, P. C. Webb).
