EMPIRE DEFENCE POLICY

Differing Viewpoints In Australia

"THE TIMES" COMMENTS

ON SITUATION

(UNITED I'KESS ASSOCIATION—COPVfUOHT.)

(Received August 26, 10 p.m.)

LONDON, August 26

"The Times," in a leading article on Australian and New Zealand defence, says: "The difference of viewpoint of the Lyons and Curtin parties is less significant than the fact that both sides are pledged to make the strongest effort of which a deeply uneasy Australia feels capable.

"There is less controversy in New Zealand. Mr Savage made it plain that the Dominion is concerned with the defence, not only of New Zealand, but of the British Commonwealth as a whole."
