CLERK COMMITTED FOR
SENTENCE
(FBESa AS3OCIATIOH TBLBORAM.)
AUCKLAND, August 26.
Holroyd Wynn Taylor, aged 36, a clerk, appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day on 12 charges of obtaining a total of £122 by falsely representing that a number of cheques and drafts were good and valid orders. Detective Brady said that when arrested Taylor admitted having received the money, and also that he had no account at a bank. In a statement, Taylor said he was married, with one child. In March last he came to Auckland from Sydney to get employment. He saw his mother in Wellington. She advanced him £SO from his father's estate. "In Auckland I got into fast company, and began to drink heavily, losing all sense of responsibility," the statement continued. "Then I got into debt, and issued a draft on the estate of my father. I had no authority, but was hopeful my mother would honour it." Accused added that while drinking he drew drafts and started backing horses in an endeavour to get square Now he realised the disgrace he had brought on his people, and promised at the termination of his punishment to go to the country and work on a farm and repay the money in instalments.
Taylor pleaded guilty to all charges and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
