NORTH ISLAND MOTOR UNION MEETS

CONSTITUTION OF ROAD SAFETY COUNCIL

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEQBAM.) WANGANUI, August 26. The North Island Motor Union conference was opened this morning. The delegates were accorded a civic welcome by the Mayor (Mr W. J. Rogers). Dr. E. E. Porritt is presiding, in the absence of the president (Mr W. A. O'Callaghan), who is in Australia.

A motion that the National Road Safety Council should.be an executive and not an advisory body was carried, and a committee was appointed to go into the matter.

Hawera was chosen as the venue for the 1938 conference. The following officers were elected: President, Dr. E. E. Porritt (Wanganui); vice-presidents, Messrs A. Grayson (Auckland) and J. H. Edmundson (Hawke's Bay); executive, Messrs A. S. Burgess (Wanganui), V. Duff (Taranaki), C. R. Honeyfield (South Taranaki), R. W. Roydhouse (Wairarapa), E. Palliser (Wellington), H. Mackie iManawatu), F. G. Farrell (Auckland), and Dr. W. D. Fitzgerald (Hawke's Eay). Mr W. A. O'Callaghan, who has been president of the union since 1930, did not seek re-election, and it was decided to place on record appreciation of his long service.
