GRANTS FROM WAR FUND
FRESH APPLICATIONS REQUIRED
NAVY LEAGUE ADOPTS PROPOSAL
Recipients of grants from the War Fund, which is administered by the Navy League for the assistance of former naval ratings of the mercantile marine who were incapacitated through war service, are to be asked this year to submit fresh applications for assistance according to a decision made at the monthly meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Navy League last evening. The president of the branch, Commander A. D. Boyle, presided.
The subject was introduced by the secretary, Major W. E. S. Furby, who said that the position had changed of recent rears, and that several men were in receipt of assistance to which they were at present not entitled. These people should be asked to resubmit applications for assistance and these applications would then be investigated by the committee in charge of the fund. He thought that applicants should be asked to make a statement setting out their income, and the committee could then decide the necessity of making further payments. "They used to do that once a year," remarked the chairman, in moving that the proposal be adopted. The applications should be investigated, before payments were made.
