THE PRIME MINISTER’S GENIUS
TO THE EDITOR or THB PRESS. Sir, —The suggestion in Mr T, H. McCombs’s letter—that your paper should apologise to the Prime Minister for the article in your Friday’s issue—is interesting. Indeed, I go further. You should apologise to the entire Labour Party—for you have offended them deeply The truth hurts. I want to apologise to the Labour Party, too. I want to apologise for voting Labour. I was one of those who listened to those honeyed words about decreased taxation, the elimination of unemployment taxation, the end of the sales tax, and decreased exchange. None of these has been done, and instead of paying a mere £2 in income tax, I have to pay several times that amount. It seems to me that the Labour' Party has been running a mutual admiration society long enough. If it got down to the matter of keeping its election promises, instead of passing a whole lot of class legislation benefiting but one section of the community, I am prepared to apologise again. What could be fairer?— Yours, etc., OFFICE WORKER. August 9, 1937. TO . THB EDITOR Or THB PRESS. Sir, —Would you permit me to express my keen appreciation of your leading article on the subject “The Prime Minister’s Genius,” published in “The Press" last Friday. With many others, I regard it as the finest leading article upon political matters that has appeared in your valuable journal for some years. One cannot commend too highly the fearless and outspoken criticism to which it gave expression in calling attention to the various utterances, contradictory or inconsistent, of the Prime Minister upon many public questions.—Yours, etc., FREEDOIi OF THE PRESS, August 9, 1937.
