FOOTBALL MATCH BANNED
AUSTRIANS ORDERED TO
LEAVE ITALY
UNSUCCESSFUL APPEAL MADE TO MUSSOLINI IVNITED I'REiS ASSOCIATION (Received July 12, 11 p.m.) ROME, July 12. In consequence of disorder at a football match between Italy and Austria at Vienna, recently, when an Italian player made an offensive gesture at an opponent and a free fight occurred on the field, Signor Mussolini has banned a match between Italy and Austria at Genoa. II Duce ordered the Austrians to depart within 24 hours. When they pleaded for the withdrawal of the ban an official of the Austrian Chancellory, acting on Dr. Schuschnigg s instructions, telephoned the Italian Foreign Office and the Austrian Legation at Rome about the incident. It is understood he made a vigorous protest. It is noteworthy that Signor Mussolini's decision followed Austria's rebuff to G . many in rejecting Herr Hitler’s demand for an amnesty for Nazis imprisoned in Austria, and the admission of Nazis to Dr. Schuschnigg’s Cabinet.
