"A COUNTRY WORTH WORKING FOR"

GERMAN SEA CAPTAIN’S OPINION OF NEW ZEALAND IPBBS3 ASSOCIATION TELBOIUiI WELLINGTON, July 12. “This is one of the good countries of the world; it is a country worth working for and worth fighting for,” said Captain Max Schmitt, of the Hamburg-Amerika Line’s steamer Gera, in an interview to-day. t This is the first visit Captain Schmitt and, indeed, every member of his crew have paid to this country, but during their stay at Auckland and a short sojourn at Wellington, they have come to appreciate very much the hospitality extended to them and they have been impressed with the Dominion’s picturesque qualities and the conditions under which most people live. “There are a lot of grumblers on this earth,” said Captain Schmitt, “but I have been through a lot of countries and seen a good deal of the way people live in them, and in these few days I have spent here I have come to the conclusion that the people of these islands are living on a very good spot,” he said.
