VISIT OF COUNT VON LUCKNER
SEAMEN’S ATTITUDE (TABS* ASSOCIATION TBLZORAIt.) WELLINGTON. July 12. The proposed visit of Count Felix von Luckner to New Zealand was discussed at the monthly meeting of sea?nen and the following resolution was
carried: “The Federated Seamen's Union understands that Count von Luckner may visit this country and that he may possibly be a propagandist on behalf of the German Government. He is well known on account of his exploits as a sea raider during the last imperialist war and particularly for the skilful manner in which he made his escape from the New Zealand military authorities. While the Federated Seamen’s Union has no sympathy with agents of Germany, or any other Imperialist Power, it sees no reason why Count von Luckner should be singled out, and considers that to advocate preventing .his landing in New Zealand would be foolish and reactionary, since
no such hindrance has been placed in the way of similar representatives of other Imperialist Powers. The Federated Seamen’s Union is, however, emphatically of the opinion that no special facilities should be given to him. He should not be invited to express his views, and," for any accommodation, transport, and other services he may require, he should pay the same rates as any other tourists.”
