POWER SUPPLY IN SOUTH ISLAND

TENDERS CALLED FOR NEW PLANT

LOAD APPROACHING FULL CAPACITY

(TBXSS fcSSOCIITIOH TSL.BOBAU.) WELLINGTON, July 10. The Acting Minister for Public Works (the Hon. P. C. Webb) stated to-day that since the Southland district was brought into the South Island hydro-electric system the combined load on the Waitaki-Cole-ridge system nad grown at a rate indicating that the demand would be up to full capacity within two years.

The Government had decided to call tenders for two 15,000 kilowatt generators, the foundations for which were already in position. One generator would meet the demand for some time, but it was desirable to have a spare unit in the system.
