Miss Alice Williams is spending a holiday with Miss Brenda Smart, "The Hermitage," Kowai Bush. Mrs R. E. Alexander (Cashmere Hills) will leave to-night to visit her son in Martinborough. Mr and Mrs J. H. Grigg (Longbeach) have returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs C. R. Carlyon (Wellington) is paying a visit to Christchurch and is staying at "Ranui," Cashel street west.

The Misses Morkane ("Rosebank," Cashmere Hills) will leave at the end of next week for a trip to America.

Mrs Maxwell Ramsay (KaiapoO left on Saturday for Dunedin, where she is the guest of Miss Ramsay, London street.

Mrs A. I. Cottrell (Fendalton) will leave to-night for Wellington to meet her father, Dr. Hugh Webb, on his return from England.

Miss Dorothy Harkness (Westport) will arrive in Christchurch on Saturday to pay a short visit to her sister, Miss Muriel Harkness, Peterborough street. Miss Halmai Loughnan (Avonside), who is visiting Wellington, will return home to-morrow morning.

Miss M. Duncan and Miss P. Reid, of the Springfield branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, will leave to-day to attend the annual conference of the division at Wellington.

Miss Betty Rutherford (Macdonald Downs, Hawarden), who has been visiting Wellington for the races, returned yesterday morning, and, with her mother, is spending some weeks at Sumner.

Mrs Stewart, Mair (Fendalton), who has been visiting Mrs Geoffrey Upton, Auckland, left last night on her return journey to Christchurch.

Mrs Peter Hall (Hawarden) has returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Gerald Sherman (Papanui road), who have been for a four months' - visit to the United States, arrived in Auckland by the Mariposa on Friday. Miss Eleanor Foster, who has been spending several months in Blenheim and Nelson, has returned to her home in Riccarton.

Mr and Mrs John Lockhead, of Omihi, are spending a short holiday in Picton.

Mr and Mrs G. L. Rutherford and Mr and Mrs Erik Rutherford (Parnassus) returned yesterday from Wellington, where they attended the races last week. Miss Kathleen Rutherford has left for Hawke's Bay to visit Mrs Gaisford and other friends.

Miss Rose Hutton and Mr George Hutton (Bangor, Hawkins), who went to Wellington for the races, are spending a few days as the guests of the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, at Government House, before returning home. Miss E. M. Black, Dominion secretary of the Florists' Telegraph Delivery Association, will leave New Zealand this month to attend an international florists' convention to be held in Philadelphia. Miss Black was entertained at a farewell party in Wellington by members of the association and presented with a gift. Mr T. Garrett, a well-known New South Wales artist, and Mrs Garrett are spending several weeks in New Plymouth. Later they will visit Wanganui and Wellington, and will then tour the South Island. They intend to return at the end of the year to Auckland, where they will spend Christmas.

Miss Rona Stevenson, who has been a student teacher at the Gisborne Main School, will leave from Auckland by the Mariposa on July 26 for the United States, where she will commence a year's course of specialised physical education at Berkeley, California. Mesdames H. Rinaldi and G. Edwards were joint hostesses at a card party held at the Kaiapoi Croquet Club's pavilion on Friday afternoon in aid of the club's funds. The prize-winners were Mrs T. Batie and Mrs H. Rinaldi. The players included Mesdames J. D. McMullan, W. C. Tourell, W. Gordon, J. McDougall, E. Hansen, A. J. Rich, H. J. Hassall, G. Brown, H. Barritt, H. P. Todd, M. Greenwood, E. Clothier, J. Borrell, J. Hirst, W. Hart, J. B. Simpson, Templeton, H. J. Chapman. J. Anderson, and Miss R. Mcintosh.

' The children's nursery on the top floor of the new railway station in Wellington was officially opened on Friday by Mrs D. G. Sullivan, wife of the Minister for Railways. A number of persons, representative of various organisations that work in the interests of children, attended at the invitation of the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, and had an opportunity to inspect the nursery and its perfect equipment. Miss D. Small is the matron and Miss V. Wood the kindergarten teacher. On Saturday evening members of the women's auxiliary of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society enjoyed an interesting programme arranged by their president (Miss Millicent Jennings), the gathering being held in the rooms of the Catholic Women's League. Miss McLeod gave a short history of the Maori race, its myths and iegends, and Mr L. W. McCaskill gave a lantern lecture on the forests and birds of New Zealand. Interest was added to this "New Zealand" programme by a lament and traditional songs sung by a member of the Maori race.
