WOMEN'S DIVISION OF FARMERS' UNION

HORORATA

There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the .Hororata branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. Mrs T E Pearson presided. Parcels of clothes for the Nurse Maude Association were collected. Work from the Blind Institute was on sale. Arrangements were made for the Industries Fair The competitions resulted as follows: Best home-made slippers. Miss Thorne 1, Miss B. Chambers 2, Miss M. Hockridge 3; egg-shell mosaic work, Mrs R. Murray 1 and 2, Mrs K. G. Comley 3; paper competition, Mrs K. G Comley; best bloom, Mrs B. Hockridge 1 and 2, Mrs F. S. Barrett 3, Miss Fitzsimmons gave a demonstration on preserving flowers for cake decorations. The hostesses were Misses Thorne and Mrs M. Thorne, jun. Mrs T. E. Pearson during the meeting presented Mrs G. C. Derrett with a book.

MOTUKARARA

A large number of members and visitors from surrounding branches gathered in the Motukarara Hall to celebrate the seventh birthday of the Motukarara Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers* Union. A concert arranged by Miss Heath, of Christchurch, was given. After the cutting of the birthday cake dancing was held. The following trophies were won by competitors:—Challenge cup for most points in general competitions: Mrs G. Cooke and Mrs F. Miller (equal) 1, Mrs L. Simmons 3. Challenge cup for most points in flower competitions: Mrs G. Cooke 1, Mrs J. Miller 2. Trophy for most points in combined competitions: Mrs G. Cooke 1. Consolation prize: Mrs E. Thompson 1. Special prize (tennis competition): Miss J. Streeter. Special prize (putting competition): Miss B. Coop.

YALDHURST BRANCH

Mrs T. Chappell presided at the monthly meeting of the Yaldhurst branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union.

Miss Murray, of Christchurch, gave a demonstration on the making of flowers from wood pulp. The home competitions resulted: — Best bloom: Mrs A. Johnstone 1, Mrs T. A. Guy 2, Miss V. McKenzie 3. Butter sponge: Miss I. Crawford 1, Mrs H. Inch 2, Mrs J. A. Crawford 3. A competition was won by Mrs L. J. Franks. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames G. M Withell and H. Inch.

KOWAI BUSH BRANCH

The July meeting of the Kowai branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held, with Mrs W. Smart presiding. Miss Douglas won the competition for the best bloom, which was judged by Mrs Belcher and Miss Williams. The competition for a knitted hot-water bottle cover was won by Miss Bain and Miss B. Smart, equal, Miss Archer and Mrs Smart being second, and Mrs Guest and Mrs Watson third.
