CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION

AUCKLAND SESSIONS TO BE WELL ATTENDED

MAIN BODY OF VISITORS TO ARRIVE ON FRIDAY

ITHK PRESS Special Siirvice.l

AUCKLAND. July 5.

Sixteen hundred people, including primary, secondary, and technical school teachers from all parts of the Auckland province, have enrolled for the regional conference of the New Education Fellowship, which will open in Auckland on Saturday morning. The large attendance has been made possible by the Education Department's action in closing all schools in the Auckland education district, next week. The holiday so given will be deducted from the total holidays for the year. . Teachers will not comprise the Whole of the attendance, for among those who have enrolled are clergymen, doctors, social workers, members of school committees and other educational bodies, and private citizens of both sexes who are interested in education and related social questions. It was expected originally that the sessions of the conference would be held entirely at Auckland University College, but the huge enrolment has compelled the local committee to make other arrangements. Apart from its hall, the college has no rooms large enough to accommodate any of the sections except the smallest, Which Will be held in a lecture room. For the remaining four sections the committee has engaged the Technical College hall, the Town Hall concert chamber, the Workers' Educational Association hall, and.the Young Women's Christian Association hall. The use of the Town Hall has been obtained for the largest general meetings. Several of the distinguished overseas educationists who are to lecture at the conference are already in New Zealand. Dr. F. W. Hart, Professor of Education at the University of California, is due from Sydney to-morrow. The main body of visitors, however, Will a-rive by the Mariposa from San Frpncisco on Friday. These include Dr. Cyril Norwood, president of St. John's College, Oxford, and formerly headmaster of Eton, Sir Percy Meadon, Mr G. T. Hankin, and Mr E. Salter Davies, English educational administrators, Dr. Susan Isaacs, of London University, Dr. Harold Rugg and Dr. E. de & Bruner, of Columbia University, Dr. Paul Dengler, of Vienna, and Rektor L.
