WELLINGTON, July 5,
The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:—
Winds changing to strong southwesterlies. Weather becoming cold, changeable, and showery, with snow in places. Seas slight to moderate, but later rising.
WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the West Coast of the South Island:—
Strong southerly winds. Weather cold, squally, and showery, but an improvement commencing to-morrow. Seas rough.
DOMINION The following is the Dominion report:—
Rain probable at first in the western and southern portions of the South Island, but improving later in Westland; elsewhere weather becoming unsettled and changeable, with rain developing in most parts, and snow on the ranges. Temperatures again falling. A depression is passing in the south to-day, while another one is apparently developing in the north Tasman Sea. A very intense anti-cyclcnc covers Australia, and is extending over the south-west Tasman. A renewal of a cold southerly type of weather is therefore indicated for the next few days.
Winds—Moderate to strong - westerly to south-westerly, but strong southerlies setting in generally about and south of Cook Strait by to-morrow morning, and rising in places to gale force.
Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough in the far south and in the south Taranaki Bight; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later increasing. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate but freshening northerly winds, later backing to strong southerly in the northern portion, with rising seas. Strong southerly to south-easterly winds to gales in the southern portion, with rough seas.
CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER
After a heavy frost the weather was fine and sunny in Christchurch yesterday. There was a light north-easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 44.7 degrees.
At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clear and a light southwest wind was blowing. The temperature was 39 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.61 in.

IN OTHER PLACES
Auckland —Cold conditions. with heavy showers, ruled during the day, the wind being light to moderate from the west. The barometer showed a falling tendency, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.77 inches. . Wellington—lt was fine in Wellington yesterday, with a north-westerly breeze, which freshened somewhat during the afternoon. The minimum temperature on Sunday was 37.4 degrees. The maximum temperature yesterday was 50.0 degrees. Dunedin—The weather yesterday morning was fine and the sun shone brightly, temperatures being mild. Heavy rain commenced to fall in the afternoon, and conditions became cold. The barometer, after falling sharply, was steady at 29.60 inches.
