WOMAN THROWN FROM CAR

WELLINGTON, July 4. Thrown through a door to the pavement when the car in which she was travelling swerved to avoid a bus, Mrs Fay Griffiths, wife of Mr E. N. Griffiths, the young aviator who arrived in New Zealand, recently after taking part in the Spanish civil war, suffered a fractured skull and shock. Mr Griffiths was unhurt. The accident occurred in Petone about midday on Saturday.
MAN KILLED WHILE CROSSING ROAD
IPRZSS ASSOCIATION T-ELEGUAIf.) WELLINGTON, July 4. Leonard John Matthews, aged about 40, an Australian, with no fixed address, was killed while crossing Hutt road on Saturday night, when he was struck by a car.
CYCLIST AND FOOTBALLER INJURED
Two men were injured in sporting events on Saturday, but not seriously. Ivan Berry, of 200 Worcester street, was competing in the cycle race held by the Avon Amateur Cycling Club, when his bicycle skidded in the loose shingle near Kaiapoi. Ho was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital suffering from head injuries, but his condition last evening was reported not to be serious. C. Stuart, a Hornby senior Rugby League forward, fractured a collarbone while playing at Sydenham Park. He was discharged from hospital after treatment.
