MR DE VALERA HAS GOOD LEAD
MOST CABINET MINISTERS RE-ELECTED

The state of the parties at midnight in the Irish Free State elections was as follows: De Valera supporters .. 45 Cosgrave supporters .. 22 Labour .. .. 9 Independents .. .. 6 The plebiscite vote on the new Constitution showed that 56 per cent, were favourable.
Near]y all the Cabinet Ministers have been re-elected. Those defeated include Miss Margaret Pearse, a sister of Patrick Pearse, who was executed for his leadership in the 1916 rebellion. The defeat of General R. J. Mulcahy, one of Mr L. T. Cosgrave's most valued lieutenants, was the sensation of the elections. He was beaten by Mr Larkin, a veteran Independent Labour candidate. Mr de Valera headed the Clare poll by 6000 votes over the necessary quota.
Mr Cosgrave, who was elected for Cork, secured only 9508 votes in an electorate of 53,019. The Minister for Finance (Mr Sean McEntee) was elected by a substantial majority.
