WINTER COMPETITION

WINS FOR AVONSIDE AND NORTH BEACH

Avonside and North Beach were successful in the only two matches played in the men's inter-club winter competition of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association at Wilding Park on Saturday. Results were:—

AVONSIDE v. EDGEWARE (Avonside names first) Men's Singles—G. McGregor beat W. A. Clothier, 6-4, 5-6. 6-5; V. Hill beat A. D. Sandman, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4; G. Somerville beat K. Jacksor, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1; I. Armstrong lost to R. Grover, 4-6, 4-6. Men's Doubles—Sandman and Grover lost to Hill and Somerville, 2-6, 5-6; Clothier and Jackson beat McGregor and Armstrong, 4-6, 6-4, 6-5. Avonside won by 4 rubbers to 2. NORTH BEACH B v. ADDINGTON CATHOLIC (North Beach names first) Men's Singles—J. Lees beat V. Consedine, 6-3, 6-5; P. Butler lost to N. Moore, 4-6, 1-6; R. Cattermole beat N. Watson, 6-0, 6-0; J. McGillivray beat A. Handisides, 6-3. 6-1. Me"'s Doubles—Butler and Lees beat Consedine and Moore, 6-1, 6-5; Cattermole and McGillivray beat Watson and Handisides, 6-1, 6-4. North Beach won by 5 rubbers to 1. Canterbury College defaulted to North Beach A.
