COMMUNITY SINGING
*0 TBfc (diioi o» th« mess. Sir. —After listening to a broadcast of the cheerful community singing from Dunedin last Friday I feel constrained to ask whether Christchurch is to be deprived of this entertainment during the winter? It seems likely to be so, for the Mayor has practically stated that he and the council can have nothing to do with it, but if any other body cares to take up the work they can have the Civic Theatre free of charge. Well, Mr Bcanland may find his time fully occupied in dealing with more serious matters (such as the proposed rubbish dumps at Spreydon and Opawa), but it seems a great pity if the “sings” cannot go on. for ip the past they have undoubtedly given a great deal of pleasure to thousands of people during the winter months, besides providing a substantial sum of money for the relief of distress.—Yours, etc., GEORGE INGRAM. July 3, 1937.
