HOSPITAL RATING IN SOUTH ISLAND
ASHBURTON LOWEST LAST YEAR
The information that the Ashburton County was the lowest rated district for hospital purposes in the South Island last year, being much lower than any othe- hospital district, was supplied to the Ashburton County Council yesterday by the Ashburton Hosoital Board. Th- Ashburton rate v;as 1"* M £ each" £IOOO of capital .value the nearest to this figure being 18s lOd at Wallace, while the highest was £4 3s 7d in the Grey district. This year s rat° of 221 d in the £ at Ashburton is equal to 18s 5d for each £IOOO of capital value. The New Zealand average figure for the year 1935-3 A was 29d. or £1 4s 2d for each £IOOO of capital value.
The rates for each £IOOO of capital value for 1935-36, which were the latest comparable figures available, were: _Ashburton 16s 3d. Wallace 18s lOd, South Canteroury 19s 4d. Southland £1 Is Marlborough £1 Is 2d, North Canterbury £1 2s 7d. Waitaki £1 3s, Maniototo £1 5s 4d. Nelson £1 7s 8d £1 lis 9d. Otago £1 17s lid. Westland £2 17s sd, Inangahua £3 Is 2d. Buller £3 8s sd. Grey £4 3s 7d.
