THE NATIONAL PARTY
TO THE EDITOR Of Tat PRESS Sir, —The electors of New Zealand have been repeatedly told by Messrs Hamilton, Hargest, Cobbe, Doidge. and others that a “united front” of all antiLabour parties must be arrayed against the Labour Government at the next election. It causes every reader to discount very heavily such utterances when we find on page 9 of your issue of Saturday, May 29. a report of the activities of the Christchurch Liberal Association and of the work being done in other centres by the association, etc. The sparse report is vague, yet it does not disclose any knowledge of a merger with the National under the leadershin of Mr Adam Hamilton. Can any of your readers, or can any member of this socalled National Party, reveal to your readers that this new political parly is really “National” in character, or are we to be once again fooled as we were when the so-called Coalition P n “ty was brought into being?— Yours, etef, J. HILL. Clavcrley, May 31, 1937. [Mr T. Milliken, * chairman of the National Party, said when this letter was referred to him: “No doubt the writer will hear many t‘mes again before the next e’ection that all antiofficial Labour Parties must be organised together in order to win the next election. I can assure the writer that the National Party is truly national in character, and among the thousands who have become members of the party in Canterbury a great proportion have in the past been members of the Liberal Party.”]
