KAIAPOI WAR MEMORIAL THREATENED
SUBSIDENCE OF RIVER BANK Subsidence of the banks of the Cam river as it passes through Kaiapoi has been taking place near the town's war memorial, and concern at the position has been expressed by the Borough Council to the Waimakariri River Trust. The trust's engineer, Mr H. W. Harris, reported to its meeting yesterday that he had inspected the bank near the memorial. If something was not done fairly soon, the position was likely to be aggravated. He suggested that if the Borough Council were prepared to find a sum, say £5, for material the trust should agree to build a rail and fascine breastwork along the portion affected.
