Mrs James Ritchie (Deans avenue) will leave this week for Dunedin, where she will be the guest of Mrs G. R. Ritchie. Mr and Mrs H. Earl (Hawarden), who are at present in Wellington, will leave this week by the Wanganella to visit Sydney and Melbourne. Mrs R. J. T. Bell (Dunedin), who hr.s been visiting Christchurch, has returned home. Mrs A. J. Hall and her two daughters (Dunedin), who are staying at Warwick House, will return home to-morrow. Miss Audrey Jenkins, who has been a member of the literary department of the "Evening Post," Wellington, for the last seven years, has resigned to join the staff of the National Broadcasting Service. An American by birth, Mrs Lennox took the first year of her medical course at the Women's Medical College, Philadelphia, and completed at Chengtu. Before this could be accomplished Mrs Lennox had ,to take a course in Chinese, in which language most of the lectures were conducted. An unusual form of art is displayed in a showcase in the entrance hall of New Zealand House, by Miss Cecily Ellis, of Wellington. The artist has painted Maori designs and native flowers most effectively on glass cocktail sets, grapefruit bowls and glasses, The process whereby the paint is fired on, as on china, ensures its durability. The Sunlight League of New Zealand will hold its annual meeting in the Chamber of Commerce on Friday, June 11, at 8 p.m. Dr. C. Coleridge Farr will preside, Professor H. Field will speak on "Education and Mental Hygiene," and an address will be given on "Goitre— Its Causes and Prevention." The league invites all interested to attend.

In honour of her birthday anniversary a surprise party was given to Mra'W. A. Rowse (Rangiora) at the home of Mrs C. Rands, "Randlea," Springbank, where several friends spent an enjoyable time. UNIVERSITY WOMEN ENTERTAIN . On Saturday evening a successful and enjoyable bridge party was held by the Canterbury branch of the Federation of University Women for members and their friends in the Canterbury College Student Union buildings. The proceeds were in aid of club funds for renovations to the club rooms. The rooms were effectively decorated with large bowls of bronze chrysanthemums and greenery. Mrs B. C. GOLF COURSE OPENED VISITORS AT WAITIKIRI There were many visitors and players at the new golf course, "Waitikiri," Burwood, yesterday afternoon, when the new course was opened for play. The weather was ideal for the opening, and the well sheltered course situated in a plantation of trees received much favourable comment from the visitors. The afternoon match for trophies, presented by the president (Mr J. F. Cracroft Wilson) was a Canadian foursome over 13 holes, and was won by Mr I. M. Godby and Miss Helen Buchanan. EVENING SOCIAL .

On Saturday evening the ladies committer of the Returned Soldiers Association's Literary and Debating Society entertained members and friends at a social held at the home of Mr and Mrs W. T. Woods, Fitzgerald avenue. Mr H. E. Denton was master of ceremonies for the programme of cards and musical and elocutionary items *** The winners at the "flag 500" were Mr and Mrs H. E. Denton and Mr R. A. Green, with consolation prizes for Mrs J. H. Parker, Mr E. Turnbull, and Mr B. R. MeLaren. Songs were sung by Mrs J. H. Parker. Mr J. Woods, and Mr A. Blackburn, and Mr Woods played the accompaniments. Mr F C. Williams recited a portion of "The Sentimental Bloke," and stories were told by Messrs R. A. Green, E. Tuurbull, A. Blackburn, ,and F. C. Williams. On the niotion of the president (Mr R. K. Elliott), Mr and Mrs Woods and the ladies* committee were thanked for their kindness. Others present were Mesdames W J. J.ssett, W. E. Sewell, R K. The hall was decorated with coloured streamers, balloons, and greenery, and music was provided by Colin Campbell's band (Christchurch), with extras by Misses E. Hall, M. Whyte. and Mr S. Ellis. Messrs A. Stackhouse and A. McLaughlan were masters of ceremonies. A waltzing competition was won by Miss B. Potton and Mr S. Ellis, and novelty dances by Mr and Mrs A. N. Campbell, Mr and Mrs C.
