THE CORRESPONDENCE PAGE

TO THX BDITOB OF THB PRESS sir—When 1 behold this correspondence page particularly well filled, it reminds me of a huge butchering establishment, where the various subjects are led in to the slaughter. Some meet with speedy and humane dispatch, while others have to endure a lingering and painful end. Giant butchers stand with huge cleavers in hand ready to hack them Into pieces of a suitable size for the customers to swallow. The manager sits at his desk, ever watchful to see that only healthy and digestible stuff Is handled and served, and also to see that neither butcher nor customers get away with anything that does not belong to them. My own job is just a casual one, one of the small goods men, our duties being to make a hash, sometimes a rehash, of the small pieces which the big butchers leave. Nothing remains of the carcases except a huge accumulation of hoofs and horns dumped into what is known to the trade as the W.P. basket. They are chock full of vitamins from A to Z. but as usual these are very hard to get at. None of us has been paid so far, as we have no agreement signed, but we all live in hope thai some day we shall get our funeral notices printed for nothing. This has not been definitely promised us, but after what we have done, I fee] sure the boss would be only too willing to do that much for us. Tripe, sir? Yes, sir.—Yours, etc., T.A.S. May 31, 1937.
