COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL
FIRST DEMONSTRATION CONCERT A judiciously-chosen programme was presented last evening at the Civic Theatre when the first demonstration concert of the Christchurch Competitions Society's twenty-seventh annual festival was given. The programme was as follows: —Piano solo, •'Sonata," Litster Burnet; soprano solo "O Lord Be Merciful," Miss Beatrice Simpson; dance, "Hungarian," Miss Billic Addis; humorous recitation, "The Dentist." Jack Robbi operatic solo, Bel Raggio," Miss Phyllis O'Grady; characterduo, "In Old Madrid," Valerie Stewart and Pauline Davies; Highland Fling, Miss Joyce Fcaser; story dance, "Outcast, Gwen Smith; test recUa\, "The Chambered Nautilus." Miss Grace Nixon; song. "Down in the Forest." Miss Moana Shaw; song and dance, "Trees." Nan Cadman's studio; piano duet. "Les Sylphes, Misses Bettv Franklin and Noeline Gibbard; acrobatic dance. Olgo Flint; recitation, "Gathering Peaches," Miss Kathleen Read; action chorus. "Come to the Fair," Tom Thumb Choir; operatic dance, Miss Marjorie Austin; duet, "Pokarekare," Belle Foster and Gertrude Ardagh; character recitation, "Ann of Green Gables," Melva McAleer: ballet, "Valse Bleu." Peggy Holmes Studio; song, "The Worldly Hope." Miss Daisy Perry; sword dance. Joan Russell; solo. "To Daisies." Mr. Roland Jenkin; humorous recitation, "Reuben Proposes." Miss Beryl Baggs; song and dance, Miss Valerie Timms; character duo, "Clouds," Misses Edna Henderson and Dorothy Grose; duet, "Valse Brilliante," Eileen Horan and Litster Burnet.
