LONDON BUS STRIKE
♦ “HONOURABLE SETTLEMENT” ANNOUNCED (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIEKLISB.) RUGBY, May 27. The settlement of the London bus men’s strike was announced late last night. The Transport Board and the union accepted the interim report of the Court of Inquiry, and joint machinery will be established to investigate the conditions of employment in relation to their effect on the health of the men, and to take appropriate steps, either by a reduction of hours or by such other measures as may be agreed on, to meet the position. . The chairman of the Trades Union Congress (Mr Ernest Bevin) described it as an honourable settlement. He added an expression of thanks to the public for the patience they had shown during the strike. Referring to the strikers, he said that the men had conducted themselves with solidarity, good discipline, and good temper. There had been no incidents which would leave any bad feeling.
