PRESENTATIONS TO LOCAL BODIES

RETURNED SOLDIERS SHOW APPRECIATION ANNUAL MEETING OF WAIMATE BRANCH Appreciation of the help received from time to time from the Waimate Borough and County Councils was expressed by the Waimate branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association at its annual meeting on Wednesday evening, in the form of the presentation of illuminated addresses to the Mayor (Mr G. Dash) and the chairman of the County Council (Mr John Bitchener). The presentation, which was performed by the retiring president of the branch (Mr M. J. Friel), was similar to ceremonies staged by branches in all parts of New Zealand, at the instigation of Dominion headquarters to mark the twenty-first anniversary of the association. Before the visitors replied, three cheers were given for the bodies they represented. In their replies Messrs' Dash and Bitchener thanked members for the honour done to them, and promised the assistance of the councils as far as was in their power.
