HOSPITAL BOARD SECRETARY

TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT MADE Mr W. A. W. Gudgeon, accountant to the North Canterbury Hospital Board, has been appointed to take over the secretaryship of the board on trial at the retirement in December of the present secretary, Mr W- S. The finance committee of the board recommended to a meeting yesterday that the position of secretary should be advertised, but several members objected to the proposal, holding that if a suitable officer was offering within the board's own staff, he should have the appointment. In the meantime Mr Gudgeon will become assistant secretary. He has been for 17 years accountant to the board. Mr Gudgeon has had a distinguished war record, winning the Military Cross.
