EXPORT OF HELIUM GAS
♦ MORE LIBERAL LAWS URGED IN UNITED STATES (Received May 26, 10.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 25. A Cabinet committee of five has recommended to Mr Roosevelt the liberalisation of the legislation governing helium to permit the export of the gas for other than military purposes. The designer of the German airship Hindenburg, Dr. Hugo Eckeher, has arrived to give evidence before the Senate committee. Mr Thomas Slate, the inventor of the all-metal dirigible, warned a sub-committee that Germany wanted helium for military use. He said Dr. Eckener was the unwilling tool of German militarists.
