WATER-RACE SYSTEM OF WAIAU PLAINS
♦- LOAN RECOMMENDED BY RATEPAYERS A meeting of ratepayers of the Waiau Plains water-race ratepayers, convened by the Amuri County Council, waa held in the Rotherham Hall. There was a good attendance. . Mr G. O. Rutherford (County. Chairman) presided over the meeting, and reported that the council had called the meeting to place before the ratepayers a proposal to improve and extend the headwords of the races, with a view to alleviating the heavy maintenance costs caused by constant flooding of the river. The proposed work was estimated to cost £6OO. which would be raised by a loan over the water-race district. A resolution was passed endorsing the council's proposal, «nd it was decided to recommend that the term of the loan be 20 years. Before the meeting closed ratepayers referred to the efficient manner in which the water-race caretaker. Mr A. Taggart, carried out his duties, and it was unanimously decided to forward a letter of appreciation to him.
