A CHANCE FOR EXPERTS
TO THB BDITOB 0# THB FRBSB. Sir _l have read with considerable interest the articles which have been appearing in your paper about the Molesworth station: It occurred to me that here was a golden opportunity by which some of the text-book theorists who have been advising the Government about the commercial life of this Dominion could demonstrate from a practical point of view what they can really do. How our commercial men would welcome such a demons ration! Power without responsibility « one thing; give them power with responsibility and see what a fist they wiu ffiSVit May I sugges th a these theorists or members of the orams trust" be allowed to take over this station; no doubt the Government from its inexhaustible coffers, would gladly And the money. Let the theorists be debited with interest on capital and all outgoings, as is done in the case ■3 a private* person, and then see what Success they make of it and what a they-would provide for the Government. No doubt there are rising costs, but that should not deter these heaven-mspired theorists. Can they not, with one wave of their superior hands, prevent this, and with a Canute-like attitude "dam the fiowin These persons do not hesitate to go into any business establishment and after about five and twenty minutes inspection are apparently able to lay down with enviable clarity just what should be done and what course should be followed about the particular business both in the interests of shareholders and in the interests of the public Now let these text-book theorists «ive us a practical demonstration of what they can do with Molesworth. Let them have an opportunity of putting their theories into practice and let them be paid by results disclosed by a balance-sheet compiled upon commercial accountancy principles and audited by a public accountant, and reap the fruits of their labour We should remember at all times that an ounce of practice is worth a ton of theory. Well, here's a golden opportunity.-Yours, etc., JUNnjs< May 26. 1937.
