An'increase of £56.750 in the cost of administering Wellington city affairs was disclosed when the City Council adopted the current year's •estimates to-night. This is a record increase, of which £12.000 is due to the 40-hour week for 1937-38. and £22.900 for the increased cost of materials normally used by the corporation. The hospital levy has increased by £BOOO. and the Fire Board levy by £IOOO.
