BOROUGH COUNCIL The Lyttelton Borough Council met last evening. Those present were the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton), Crs. R. Fenton, W. W. Toy, J. N. Neville, A. G. Sinclair, T. B. Hempstalk, J. D. Sargentina, R. Cairns, and W. T, Foster. A letter was received from five residents of Day's road, asking that a petition which they had previously forwarded to the council for the construction of suitable footpaths, should receive early consideration. It was decided to proceed with the work at an ea The d Lyttelton Returned SoldiersAssociation applied to rent the top floor of the council buildings. On the motion cf Cr. Hempstelk it was decided to receive a deputation from the association about the profit 6 walfdecided that the council inspect certain fences at Diamond Harbour which the lessees claimed should be renewed by the council. _ The superintendent of the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade (Mr R. Carson) wrote applying for the use of the council's heavy-duty motor-truck for the brigade, to enable it to take part in the Coronation celebrations. A motion by Cr. Toy, that the application be granted, lapsed for want of a seconder. The Mayor's motion, that ia reply be sent stating that the loan

of the truck had already been promised to another organisation, was carried. It was decided to declare • Coronation Day a public holiday in the ■borough and to grant c icil employees a whole day's ht ay. Personal ' Mr Eliot O. Sinclair, of Lyttelton, has been appointed assistant-engineer" to the Waimakariri River Trust. ; Mrs Adam Chalmers, sen., Mount Pleasant, is a patient in St. George's Hospital. , _. . Mcßurney, of Denniston, formerly of Lyttelton, is spending a holiday in Lyttelton.
