CORONATION MEMORIAL
TO TH» CDITOB QV TH» PBBSS. Sir, —I. too, am most interested in the/ suggestion made by Mrs T. E. Taylor; and sincerely hope the matter will be given serious consideration by those in authority in Christchurch. I am not in a position to give an opinion as to whether a children's hospital or a concert hall and organ would be the best thing in the Interests of the Christchurch people—one or the other should appeal strongly. The first would suoply a need while the second is for pleasure, but a fine concert hall with organ is a great asset to a city. I would most emphatically beg the authorities of the "Garden City" to think, and think twice, before doing anything further in organising either indoor or outdoor functions for May 12. It would be wise not to do anything which would cause a crowd to accumulate anywhere just now. I hope I shall not be thought a "wet blanket," but I am writing this with the ravages of a previous epidemic an indelible picture on my mind—anyone that baa seen the Vwo -wards at Trerttham Military Hosoital, and -the same at King George V Hosoital, Rotorua. full of crippled chlidren having treat- , ment, must always remember it, and we must one and all do everything we can to prevent such an epidemic recurring. I hope someone will set the ball rolling and that everyone will give according to their means to a real and worthy memorial to this great Coronation Day—something that could with pride be shown to the King and Queen if they visit New Zealand some time during their reign. Decorations and amusement on the day are so soon forgotten, and then, too, there is the weather. It might be a wet day and spoil everything. Let us all concentrate on a fitting memorial and not gather into crowds. The epidemic is apparently coming to the end of its tether, and it would be a thousand cities to do anything v'Mch might cause a flare-up.—Yours, etc.. T. HARRIS ON-WIL-KIE. West Melton, April 30, 1937.
