SOME CLUB DOINGS

Good /Samaritans "We had our first meeting in March, and decided to run a dance on April 7. We have two additions to the Good Samaritans' Club, Pearl Horn and Betty Andrews.. Betty has been a member and a wonderful worker for many years, so we think we are fortunate in having her with bur club. <. ' . "Our dance was a great success, and we have a box of beautiful things for our old people. We hope to raise £2O this year, as we had more than £lO last year, and we didn't seem to have half enough. "We are running our next dance on May 26 at St. Matthew's Parish Hall. Next we hope to have a concert, with the TuahiWi Maoris assisting us." DULCIE, EDNA, AND LEICESTER . . BAYLIS. Carefree Club, Papanui ' "On Saturday, April 10, we held a meeting at the home of - Mrs Winter. We voted for new officers for the club, and the results were ias follows:—Marjorie Winter (leader). Jean . Stoddart (secretary), Gwenda Harding (treasurer). Iris Beardsley and Sylvia Daniel ("Press" Reporters). _ "On Saturday, April 17,. we held another meeting in the house, of Mrs Winter. We "Started making aprons and knitting." —IRIS BEARDSLEY, "Press" Reporter. Mason's Flat, Ha warden Good luck to Mason's Flat. _ A club has been formed there. The leader of this club is 'Mate Blue Eyes, the secretary, Thelma Foster, and the treasurer, Betty Webb. Other members are Ruth Gray and Claire Lewis. A big welcome to the Mason's Flat band, and Lady Gay hopes to hear more of their doings very soon.

.. Pollyamna Club, New Brighton 'The " Pollyanna Club, New Brighton, opened the club season with a concert held on Wednesday, lApril 21.' And what a success that ' concert was! Why, there were more than 300 present, and every inch of room was occupied. There was not a. square foot of space vacant. The leader, • Beryl Coddington, the secretary, Theda Brading, "The Press" reporter, Shona Castle, and Jacqueline Ford, another member, have all reason to feel proud at the 'success of their efforts. The items .included pianoforte solos, songs, and songs in character, tap-dancing,, and several items by the "Nigger Minstrel Band." These last were particularly appreciated. The secretary, Theda Brading, in a brief speech, described the work of "The Press Ship,!' and the Christ'mas and Winter Missions. Then the money collected was counted, and it was found that no less than £1 i3s 3d had been raised. This, on the vote of the members, It was decided to use for Winter Mission funds, and "The Press Ship" cot fund. / ,-The thanks'of Lady Gay and. the * Pollyanna Club members are due to the, teachers of New Brighton - School, who gave every help to the young organisers, to Mr D. H. Kennedy, who acted as pianist, and to the mothers, who lent their aid. Guvnor Club, St. Albans • Congratulations to the members of the Gaynor Club. With Mrs E. Whitley as their adviser, and Marjorie Crozier as their enthusiastic and capable leader,.they are starting out on another year's work. Doings for the season opened with e concert held in St. Albans School pn Thursday, April 29. '. .A most successful concert it was, too! Items were contributed by Marjorie Crozier, Betty Timlin, Joan Barnard, Rita Gopperth, Adele Bruce, Gwenneth Parry, and Gwynneth Riches. The dancing, recitations, and community songs were all. very good indeed, and were much appreciated. .• The club wishes to thank all who took part. It is particularly grate- . ful to the members of the Good Samaritans* Club for a gift of •sweets, and to Mrs Compton, who acted as accompanist. Lady Gay ~ also wishes to express her thanks ■to the teachers who gave permission for the concert to be held, to Mrs B. Whitley, and the other helpers. , Last year the Gaynor Club made . more than 100 Christmas stock'ngs. This year it hopes to double the f number.
