The Hon. Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, returned from the North Island yesterday and is staying at Warner's Hotel.
The* Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., was re-elected chairman of the Christchurch branch of New Zealand Town Planning Institute at the annual meeting last evening.
The Hon. Sir Walter Carncross, Speaker of the Legislative Council, and the Hon. T. F. Doyle, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. Sir Walter. Carncross is staying at the Clarendon Hotel.
Messrs G. Lawn (a director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand) and A. O. Wilkinson returned to Christchurch yesterday from the North Island.
Commander R. C. Garsia (Administrator of Nauru Island) and Messrs V. R. Roth, A. F. Ellis, and Milne, of the Nauru Island Phosphates Commission, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning by the steamer express. Dr. Leon Bossard (Switzerland) is staying at the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Dr. Bossard is writing a book on the geology of New Zealand, and is engaged in research work on the structure of the Southern Alps.
