MARSHLAND DISTRICT POTENTIALITIES
TO THE EDITOB OF THE PKESS.
Sir,—Christchurch as a city has great possibilities. It is capable of being one of the greatest cities in the southern hemisphere; and it must be apparent to anyone who has • the city at heart that the value of the Marshland district to the city of Christchurch in the near future will be priceless. I suggest that an act of Parliament be passed at once totally to prohibit the sale of any land in that district for building purposes. It would be an unpardonable disgrace to cover that district with bricks and mortar. Christchurch must extend and she has the whole of the Canterbury plains behind iier.
I beg to suggest further that the Addington saleyards be moved to Rolleston, where they would have a fine dry country and a 25 minutes' service wouicl get people there. I further suggest that a railway should be built between Rolleston and Lincoln to connect Southbridge, also Little River. Of course there are people who will say that the country is not ready for these things. I suppose we always . shall have this class of people, but the question is, will it pay? I think it-will from any point of view.—Yours, etc., A. DENISON. April 19, 1937.
