DEBUTANTES’ DANCE
FOUR HOSTESSES ENTERTAIN TOWN AND COUNTRY GUESTS Mrs Douglas Anderson, Mrs F. J. Gorton, Mrs Denis Chapman, and Mrs V. Holm Turnbull gave great pleasure to nearly 300 guests who attended a very enjoyable dance given by them at the Winter Garden last night in honour of their daughters, who were debutantes at the very pleasant gathering. The guests of honour were Miss Joan Anderson, eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs Douglas Anderson, Armagh street West, Miss Anne Chapman, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Denis Chapman, “The Ranche,” West Eyreton, Miss Patricia Gorton, daughter of Mr and Mrs F. J. Gorton, North Canterbury, and Miss Pauline Turnbull, second daughter of Mrs V. Holm Turnbull. Fendalton. The Hostesses Mrs Anderson wore a trained gown of Botticelli blue matalasse. finely patterned in silver, and a spray of dark red flowers on the shoulder. Mrs Chapman wore a trained frock of floral georgette in tones of dahlia red, green and mastic, and a shoulder spray of freesias. Mrs Gorton’s trained gown of black satin-backed crepe was made with an off-the-shoulder bodice, caught with a large diamente buckle and cluster of red flowers. Mrs Turnbull wore a black lace frock trimmed with net frills, and a coatee to match, brightened with red flowers at the waist.
Beautiful Frocks The debutantes made an attractive picture as they stood in the lounge and received the congratulations and good wishes of their friends. Miss Anderson wore a slightly trained frock of ivory moire, made with square neckline, shirred bodice, very full skirt, and puffed sleeves. Her posy of pink carnations and sweet peas, the gift of Mrs Percy Wynn-Williams and Miss Lucy Wynn-Williams, repeated the colour of the big pink silk flowers on the bodice. Miss Chapman’s slightly trained frock of ivory slipper satin was shirred at each side' of the waistline and finished with a row of tiny buttons at the back. In her hair she wore a jewelled chaplet, the gift of her cousin, Lady Campbell, and her shoulder spray of pink flowers was a present from Miss Lyndsey Thomson. She carried a large white ostrich feather fan. , , „ . , Miss Gorton's frock of shell pink taffeta was made with tailored revers caught with a posy of pink and blue flowers. The dainty puffed sleeves and the overpanels of the skirt were of ivory net frilled with Valenciennes lace, and the pink velvet flower in her hair matched her posy of pink flowers. , , Miss Turnbull wore a frock of parch-ment-pink moire with an oil’-the-shoulder neckline, finished with a deep plait of the material and a belt qt silver lame to match the narrow twist of lame in her hair. Her posy, the gift of Miss Jean Paterson, of Dunedin, was of pink rosebuds and silver leaves.

FIVE O’CLOCK PARTY Mrs H. J. Quarrel! and Miss Nora Quarrell were hostesses at a 5 o'clock party held at their home in Opawa road yesterday to honour Miss Peg Blunden and Mr Leonard Moorhouse, whose marriage will take place this afternoon. Amongst those present were Miss Blunden, Mr Moorhouse, four bridesmaids. Misses Nora Quarrell, Joan Whetter, Ethel Moorhouse, and Claire Morton; the best man, Mr David Lindsay (Dannevirke); and the groomsmen, Messrs Derek Symes, Mervyn McKechnie (Greymouth). George Low, and Edward Moorhouse. Others present were Miss Margaret Anderson, Miss Mary Garland, and Mr Denzil [Ward (Wellington).
