WELLINGTON, March 24,
The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) to-day outlined the Coronation celebration arrangements. The week beginning May 12, .it is desired, should be celebrated throughout the Dominion as Coronation Week. Coronation Day itself will be a paid holiday for all Government employees, and the Government invites local bodies and private employers to follow its example. The churches are invited to hold special services on May 16. There will be a Government ceremony at Parliament House on Coronation Day, at which the GovernorGeneral, the Acting-Prime Minister, and the Mayor of Wellington will speak. Sports bodies are .invited to hold special fixtures, and there will be naval and military reviews. School children are to meet at the schools at 9 a.m. on Coronation Day.
It is not proposed to issue souvenirs to individual children, but later the Government will present a suitable souvenir to each school. A complete scheme of decorations and illuminations has been arranged and local bodies are invited to cooperate. On Coronation night the service at Westminster Abbey will be broadcast by loud speakers, and the following day the King's address to the Empire will be similarly broadcast. Expenditure by local bodies will be validated in the next session of Parliament.
