THURSDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) FORGERY On a charge of forgery and on another of stealing £8 in money, the property of Thomas Kay, Roy Poison, a butcher, aged 29 years, pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The charge 'of forgery was that accused had altered an official receipt issued by the North Canterbury Hospital Board for 18s to the credit of R. Poison, to represent an official receipt for £8 to the credit of T. Kay. Accused was represented by Mr C. E. Purchase. Thomas Kay, of Belfast, said that he had been a patient in the Christchurch Public Hospital in 1936. He was discharged in October with £29 2s expenses. On one occasion he paid £l2 off that account and on October 19 a further amount of £9, receiving receipts in both instances. At the beginning of the present month he was advised that £8 was still owing. He disputed it, as he had paid £8 2s to the accused in December and received a receipt for it in the board's official form. Alice Ellen, assistant cashier of the North Canterbury Hospital Board said that alterations to the receipt issued to Poison had been made after it had left their hands. Poison had an Xray examination, -w'.Uch cost him 18s. Acting-Detective S. W. Cunningham read two statements which he had taken from accused in which the offences were admitted. Poison pleaded guilty to the offences and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. INSULTING BEHAVIOUR "There have been several complaints against the man before. He lurks round Latimer square-and keeps to dark places," said Sergeant R. Henry about Reginald Bulmer Robinson, who was charged with behaving in an insulting manner towards two young women, sisters. He had accosted the two sisters separately one evening. On a later date when one of them saw him again and he said "Good evening" to her, she calleS a constable. Accused was fined £5 and ordered to pay costs. Default was fixed at 30 days' imprisonment. INSULTING LANGUAGE William McAuliffe appeared on a charge of using insulting language to a member of the Corps of Commissionaires. Sergeant Henry said that accused had been travelling on a tram to Monica Park with the complainant, whom he. had approached in a threatening manner and spoken •to him in the langua'ge complained of. The magistrate: What's wrong with the red caps? McAuliffe: I saw a lot of them in the army. j The defendant was ordered to pay SUNDAY TRADING For keeping his shop open on a Sunday. Cyril, John Aitken, 171 Huxley street, was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. CIVIL COURT (Before Mr F. F.
