EXPECTED

t UNITE [J I'UKSS ASSOCIATION— COI'YUIUIIT.) (Received January 23, s.t> p.m.)

GENEVA, January 27

Hcrr Arthur Greiser (Nazi president of the Danzig Senate), who thumped a table and put his fingers to his nose at journalists at the July session of the league council, manifested a more chastened spirit at to-day's sitting, even omitting the Nazi salute.

He spoke quietly when he presented a report designed to end the friction between the league and Danzig, and expressed willingness to co-operate peacefully with the league. The council adopted the report, which is expected to hasten an alignment between Germany and Danzig.

ALEXANDRETTA AND DANZIG

QUESTIONS SETTLED lIY LEAGUE COUNCIL

(I!KIT1S11 OFFICIAL WIKKMJSS.)

RUBGY, January 27

All the outstanding questions in the agenda of the council of the League of Nations, except those affecting Spain, were settled before the public session adjourned. The most important problems had reference to the future of the Sanjak of Alexandretta and the relations between Danzig and the League of Nations. An agreement reached between France and Turkey provides that the Sanjak shall constitute a separate entity and enjoy full independence in internal affairs, the Syrian Republic being responsible for the conduct of Alexandretta's foreign affairs. Turkish will be the official language, and the league council will determine the character and conditions of the use of a second language. It is provided that the Sanjak shall be demilitarised and a Franco-Turkish treaty guaranteeing the territorial integrity of the Sanjak is to be drawn up. The President of the Danzig Senate (Herr Arthur Greiser), accepting the report, said that the good collaboration between Danzig and Poland constituted a further contribution to European peace. He undertook to co-operate loyally with the new league commissioner. The council's Committee of Three was asked to continue to watch the situation in Danzig.
