APPRECIATION OF WORK FOR COMMUNITY

♦ FAREWELL TO THE REV. L. A. NORTH

Appreciative reference to the work of the Rev. L. A. North was made at a largely-attended church and congregational social, held in the Oxford Terrace Baptist School Hall last Wednesday evening to bid him good-bye. Mr North will leave next Monday for an eight months' trip to England and the Continent. He will join Mrs North in Sydney. , A , Mr A. R. Jordan, secretary of the church, presided and read greetings, and good wishes from the Rev. A. Anstice, president of the New Zealand Baptist Union, and from the Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles, union secretary. The Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt (Christchurch Ministers' Association), Mr H. Falla (Canterbury Baptist Auxiliary), and Mr A. M. Hosking (Optimists' Club) all spoke highly of Mr North's work in the city and offered him the cordial good wishes of their separate organisations. ....,, , , In making, on behalf of the church, a presentation to Mr North, Mr Jordan spoke of the high esteem and affection in which, as pastor and friend, Mr North was held, and assured him of the continued loyalty of his people to the work of the church during his Mr North was given an ovation when he rose to reply. He said he was deeply grateful for the opportunity afforded him to go abroad, and both he and Mrs North held the privilege in sacred trust and earnestly desired that the trip should be an investment for the Kingdom of God and for the denomination. During the evening vocal solos were given by Mrs C. C. Holland, Miss Joyce Wilkinson, and the Rev. L. A. North, Miss D. Webb being accompanist, and violin solos by Mr Stephen Elsom. Supper was afterwards served.
