WESTPORT-KARAMEA SECTION
APPROVAL RECEIVED BY COUNTY COUNCIL
Approval of the tar sealing of a section of the Westport-Karamea main highway, from the borough boundary in Brougham street to the Orawaiti cemetery, has been received by the Buller County Council from the Main Highways Board. The sealing will be 20 feet wide as far as the Orawaiti bridge and from there to the cemetery will vary from 17 feet to 20 feet. The contractors engaged on sealing the borough streets will do the work.
DAMAGE TO AERO CLUB
PROPERTY
A decision to request the police to co-operate in preventing irresponsible persons from damaging the club's, new hangar and rooms was made by the executive of the Greymouth Aero Club at a meeting on Wednesday night. It was said that almost all of the ventilators in the foundations had been broken, and the iron had been prised off the wails in an endeavour to see inside the building.

The West Coast tennis tournament was opened at Hokitika in perfect weather. There was a good attendance to watch the games at all the courts. The following were the first day's results:— MEN'S SINGLES First Round—lnnes won from McDonnell by default: Kear beat Huston, 6-1, 6-4; Warnes beat Turley, 6-1, 6-1; Freitas beat Kotlowski, 6-1, 6-3: Reid beat Havward, 6-2, 6-0: Thomson beat Sharman, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2: O'Gorman beat T. Aitken, 6-2. 6-1: Minifie beat Dodson, 6-1, 6-0. Second Round —Kear beat Russell, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4; Warnes beat Freitas, 6-2, 6-1; Reid beat Thomson, 6-1, 6-1; Mahoney beat Childs, 6-2. 6-3: O'Gorman beat A. Aitken, 6-4, 6-0; Fattinson beat Okey, 6-2, 6-3. WOMEN'S SINGLES First Round—Mrs Cassells beat Miss Tyson, 6-1, 6-2; Miss Boddy beat Miss Bridgewater, 6-3. 7-5; Miss O. Stapleton beat Mrs Wilson, 6-1. 6-0; Mrs Butland beat Mrs Neville, 7-5, 6-2; Miss Poole beat Miss McKay, 6-2. 6-2; Miss A. Stapleton beat Miss J. B. Dowell, 9-1; Miss Sandham beat Miss McCallum. 9-5. Girls' Handicap Singles—First round: Miss Elliott beat Miss Guthrey, 9-3; Miss Sandham beat Miss White, 9-2; Miss Perry beat Miss Ashley, 9-4. BOYS' SINGLES First Round—O. Dwan beat Woolhouse, 9-2; Chettle beat Spark, 9-4; Atkinson beat H. Diedrichs, 9-4. Boys' Handicap Singles—First round: Sharman beat Holley, 9-8. Thick fog lay over Reefton on Tuesday morning from daylight until a fairly late hour in the morning. This is a very unusual condition for so early in the year.
