THE CORONATION

PROGRAMME APPROVED BY THE KING HIS MAJESTY TO BROADCAST TO THE EMPIRE (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received January 16, 3.30 p.m,), LONDON, January 15. That King George will broadcast to the Empire on the evening of Coronation day, as the Duke of Windsor had planned to do, is disclosed in the official programme of Coronation events, which the King has approved as follows; May 5 and 6—Royal Courts at Buckingham Palace. May 10—Arrival of foreign envoys’ deputation and State banquet. May 11—Presentation of addresses of loyal greetings by the Prime Min-isters-of the Dominions, representatives of India and the Colonial Empire. Their Majesties will entertain, at a luncheon at Buckingham Palace, the British Commonwealth representatives, and the Duke of Gloucester will give a dinner party. May 12—The Coronation. The King will broadcast to the Empire in the evening. May 13—State banquet. May 14—The Foreign Secretary (Mr R. A. Eden) will give their Majesties a dinner at the Foreign Office. May 15—Reception for and departure of foreign envoys. May 19—Their Majesties will lunch at the Guildhall, London. May 20—The King will review the Navy. May 24—Empire Day. Their Majesties will attend a service in St. Paul’s Cathedral. May 25—The Prime Minister (Mr Stanley Baldwin) will give a dinner for.their Majesties. May 26—The birthday of Queen Mary. A Court ball will be held at Buckingham Palace. May 27—Their Majesties will attend an evening reception arranged by the London County Council. May 28—The King's levee. June 9—Official celebration of the King’s Birthday and Trooping of the Colour. • ,4 , June 10 and 11—The King will hold investitures. June 22—The King’s levee and garden party at Buckingham Palace. June 27—The King will review former servicemen. July 1 to 7—Royal Court. Their Majesties will visit Scotland. July 5 to 12—Visit to Wales. July 14 and 15—The final functions. July 22—Garden party at Buckingham Palace. Route of Procession The route from the Palace to Westminster Abbey will be along the Mall, Trafalgar square, and Whitehall, returning by the extended route of Victoria Embankment, Northumberland avenue, Cockspur street, Pall Mall, St. James’s street, Piccadilly, Regent street, Oxford street, through the Marble Arch and Hyde Park to Constitution Hill and Buckingham Palace. The foreign envoys’ deputations include representatives of all the European crowned heads. The most distinguished foreigners will be the guests of their Majesties at Buckingham Palace. The • Duke of Gloucester’s dinner party has indicated his position as the male member of the RoyalFamily next in succession to the. Throne. The Court balls will'be less formal than the State bdlls which were held at Buckingham Palace before the war. The Kirig’s broadcast will probably be from his Majesty’s study in Buckingham Palace. It is officially announced from The Hague that Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard will attend the Coronation. Princess Juliana will represent Queen Wilhelmina.

COMMISSION APPOINTED (BRITISH OmCIAL WIRELESS.) RUGBY, January 15. On the advice of his Respective governments, the King has approved the appointment of a Coronation Commission to consist of representatives of the United Kingdom, Canada,- the Commonwealth of Australia, New-Zealand, and the Union of South Africa, which will meet in London for the purpose of considering the aspects and arrangements for the Coronation which are of common concern. The new commission has generally the same membership as, the one which was. announced last July by King Edward, who nominated as chairman the Duke of York, now King George VI. The Prime Ministers and other Ministers, as well as the. High Commissioners in London of the Dominions, will serve on the commission, CELEBRATIONS FOR THREE MONTHS

(Received January 17, 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 16. . Already more thdn 500,000 copies have been ordered of the Coronation official programme, which will be published on, April 23. It will contain a map of the route and the chief buildings are indicated so that overseas listeners will be ,able to follow by wireless the whole procession, as well as the actual ceremony of the Coronation, which will be described in detail. The newspapers, in their editorial columns, emphasise the picturesqueness and significance of the pageants, stating that for nearly three months, until August, events follow in rapid succession, ho week being without some great celebration which, in the words of “The Times,” radiate the loyalty and sense of Imperial destiny of the peoples of the Dominions. AUSTRALIAN NURSES TO ATTEND

SYDNEY, January 16. Six nurses who served overseas during the war will be selected to accompany the defence services Coronation contingent. One nurse -will be selected from, each state.
